Macondo Ventures
Macondo Ventures was founded by Roberto Dominguez, a 30-year veteran of the software industry with a passion for products. In 2007 he created Comalatech to provide solutions for Document Management for the Atlassian Platform. Fifteen years later, after growing to 45 people, with offices in Vancouver and Spain, and reaching $10M in annual revenue, Comalatech was acquired by Appfire.
A technology geek, who doesn’t mind learning yet another programming language, his entrepreneurial years taught him that a good business is not all about technology, but a combination of good product, marketing, and partnership decisions… and luck.
He fights off the call of the ocean (and retirement) through long coding sessions, and in his scant spare time, kayaking and doing wildlife and street photography.
Why “Macondo”?
"Macondo is not so much a place as a state of mind, which allows you to see what you want, and how you want to see it.”
Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Macondo is a fictitious mysterious town where several Gabriel Garcia Marquez (1982 Nobel Laureate) stories take place. Roberto named his previous company after Comala, another magic town used in fiction (from Juan Rulfo’s Pedro Paramo). This fascination with magic places encouraged him to continue paying homage to literary masterpieces with Macondo.
